California is an at-will state, but 'at-will' does not mean 'for any reason.' An employer cannot fire you for a protected reason - reporting illegal activity, requesting reasonable accommodation, taking protected leave, filing a workers' comp claim, or because of your race, gender, age, disability, or other protected characteristic.
Constructive termination
You may also have a wrongful-termination claim even if you resigned - if working conditions became so intolerable that a reasonable person in your position would have felt compelled to quit. Document everything before you leave.
